Growing up, daily comics in the newspaper were enjoyable. I was always up for a giggle or belly laugh, however they struck me. But the real treat of the week was the Sunday comics. Depending on how rich your newspaper was, one would find nestled between all the news and ads, the colorful sheet(s) of the comics. We would pass them around like treasure; sometimes splitting the pages so one would get part and another would get the double sheet.
Somewhere along the road, I lost interest in most of the daily comics, and then the Sunday comics. Moving with the flow of the national trend, we found more of our news online. The waste of getting a paper daily seemed irresponsible. We were alarmed
that some dailies would move from the front door directly into recycling. So we stopped the paper altogether in an attempt to go green.
But I love to laugh. Love. It!
Twitter has taken the place of my Sunday comics. My twitter sends me something to smile or laugh about daily. I’m not talking about following bots that blindly copy/paste. I’m also not talking about following professional comics, although some of their work is fun. I’m talking about people who tweet things they experience or that they think about in a way that strikes me as funny.
Each week I plan to gather five or so tweets that have made me smile, giggle, or laugh out loud (my favorite). If you do not already follow these folks, you may want to think about it. There is no special order, theme, rhyme or reason why they make me laugh. Enjoy:
As a child I was brought up in a wonderful, loving Hellfire and Brimstone Baptist family. We’d spend our Sundays trying to find funny bits in the Bible!
If the Bible had been a series of strip comics, Church attendances may have held up.
Imagine…Jesus meets Andy Capp!
