Birthday in the Park

IMG_8495

Fun and games with the birthday boy turning double digits.  Games, play, costumes, searching for gems, pulled pork sliders and picnic food.  What fun!

Birthday party costume — crafting fun

A quick trip though a fabric store (silver material) and a scrapbooking department (for two sheets of glitter paper) was all I needed for this terrifying costume.

I already had the plastic nails (doesn’t everyone), and only needed to paint the nail part silver.

What took the longest was drawing out lightening bolts and cutting them from the two glitter papers stuck together.  I did all sizes of bolts.  Two bolts were connected to a ring, which secured the cape.

Small lightening bolts were taped onto an old bracelet.

The hardest part was making the earrings, which I combined with crystals to add some extra sparkle.

The crowning glory (pun intended) was three bolts punched and woven with a sparkle pipe cleaner around an old plastic tiara.  We all have those lying around, right?

I dressed in black and had a blast (there’s another pun for ya) at the party.

Amazon Prime Madness

IMG_8964

“Try it FREE for a month…..”

Six most dangerous words online.  “Try Amazon Prime,” they said.  “You’ll love it,” they said.

Well, dang it, “they” were right and I may now be hooked.

I started my month timidly, making sure I was ONLY getting what I would otherwise buy.  Three weeks in, I’m LOOKING for things to buy.  Lord, have mercy.

It started with Divina Dolmas, the best stuffed grape leaves I have ever eaten.  One 4.4 lb can makes four meals for Hubs and myself.  Add a salad, and there ya go!  The shipping for a can a month would pay for Amazon prime (so I told myself).  What a deal.

While searching for more goodies, I found a six pack.  I mean, who does not need 26.4 lbs of dolmas.  I sure do.  Amazon probably thinks I am part owner of a Greek restaurant.  So now I have cans stuffed around closets, etc. since our pantry can only hold one can.

The box came with 3 straight cans, two with dings, and one soundly smashed.

Will I continue Amazon Prime after the 30 days.  I do not know.  But I have enough dolmas to eat while I think about it.

Costco is Cool

IMG_8483

If you are around me long enough, somehow, somewhere, the store “Costco” will work its way into the conversation.  Yup, I love Costco.  Sure you have to be careful and not buy 60 pairs of white socks, but if you shop around you’ll find some great deals.

What does this have to do with the picture of this stranger on a sofa pretending Costco is his living room?  Well, we have had several days of record breaking heat in Salem, Oregon.  When I say record breaking, I mean….since temperatures were written down and kept…record breaking.

Hubs and I zipped over to pick up a few items during one of those three digit days and caught this gentlemen beating the heat in the air conditioned store.

Wonder if he comes with the sofa.
